Different angle from my early
blogs ~introduction of Children without Borders~

I have introduced Doctors without Borders so far. In this blog, I
will change my angle, and I’m going to talk about other NGO organization. What
organization or activity of volunteer do you come up with first? There are so
many organizations of volunteer in all over the world. However, maybe most
people know a few of them. Actually I also do not know about them well. I have
stuck to Doctors without Borders in my blog ever. So I want you to know more
different activity today!
First, I will talk about Kokkyo
naki Kodomotachi (Children without Borders). As you can see from the name of
it, this organization was found in Japan in 1997 in order to support
underprivileged young people in the world and educate Japanese general people
especially young people. Its ideology is that Japanese children and children in
foreign countries grow up together. At present, it works in 10 countries and
regions in the world including Tohoku area in Japan where was suffered from
strong earthquake and tsunami in March 2011. It helps street children, children
who are victims of human trafficking and sexual and who are damaged from
disaster. However it focuses on especially children who do not be supported by
other organization in spite of they are in serious situation. I think this is a
great point of this organization. There are many organizations like this, but
maybe they try to support people who are in more serious and danger situation. So
many people can’t be helped by someone because their situation is better than
situation of people who are about to die, despite they cannot afford to do
something except to live. So I think this organization plays very important
role all over the world. In addition it also helps young people who are forced
to do heavy labor and minors who are locked up in jail and rehabilitation
facilities because they did not follow law. This organization think that these
all young people should have chance to receive understandings and educations
equally, and give them education and training of works in order that someday
they will be able to get appropriate jobs and spend their great life as a part
of a regional community.
I will give you concrete examples. It supplied school buses to
people in Tohoku. Also it supplied many books to children who are poor and can’t
afford to buy them. These activities would lead to improve children’s conditions
of education.
Why did I introduce Children
without Borders to you? That’s because I was deeply moved by its ideology and
activities and I want you to know it. Actually I did not know this organization
before I researched Doctors without Borders for blog, despite I am Japanese. I
think the cause of its unfamiliarity is that most mass media tend to inform us
more important and heavier situation which damaged a lot of people, and we
cannot know about people who are in better situation than them but, for
example, they don’t have chance to get an education or struggle to get rights
to live equally. So inevitably its activities have not been reported by the
media well, and we don’t know them, even though its activities should be
evaluated.
Anyway, I’m glad to introduce Children without Borders to you today.
Thank you!
I also have a doubt about the way how provision of information has been done by media (especially TV and newspapers). mass media is good at pretending as if they spread all the important information or facts to citizens. But in reality, they sometimes forget to spread them to us (hmm maybe they just don't want to !!!) because recent media goes for profit orientation and loses the real role as media which should tell more facts or information to us. In such a society we live today, not only just relying on information from mass media but also spreading facts and information by citizens ourselves (from citizens to citizens) should be important. So thank you for this post.
