As we started our class in Academic English2 our teacher told us to draw
a map. At first I thought that my scores would be rated on how artistic
I am but after we finished drawing we were told to look to everyone’s
map.
I think every picture of the world that everyone drew has its own characteristics of image of the countries on Earth. First, as I see and observe each images of each maps which was drawn by my classmates I imagined the beautiful shapes of each country in the world. Second, the maps has different shapes, angles and sizes that I find interesting as everyone drew it nicely and artistically. Some of us also emphasize their own country by making the country a little bigger than usual so that everyone will notice it. Third, some drew the countries to be more artistic by sketching it in a beautiful way for example Japan. Japanese students drew Japan in a detailed way, they write the names of places and drew it where it is located such as “Hokkaido”, ”Tohoku”, “Chubu” , ”Kanto”, “Kinki”, Chugoku” “Shikoku” and “Kyushu” wherein you can really imagine the picture of its real shapes. As I watched each drawing I also found out some continent or country that were not familiar to me.
Then the teacher asked us to make another map. I was really confused so I draw my map as it is and changes nothing on it. I remembered when I was still in grade school I drew the Earth in my art class and I don't specify each country I just trace a big circle with little circles inside it. I give more effort on making the shape of my country put colours on it as I imagined it to be, I put colors on the oceans blue and color green for the land.
I think the reason why we came to draw our map differently from others because we see each and every map in different aspects. We had our ideas of the shapes and forms of different maps in the world because of its history. Some drew it that way, because it is what they had imagined of what it look like. They drew it just the way they see it from their own country and the neighbouring country they are close to. Some just drew it without knowing the real size of the country that they drew it in an unbalanced and has different kinds of shapes and sizes. I think there is no right or wrong in everyone's map because nobody is perfect to draw a map in a perfect way with a balance size and shapes because it was created by God in different forms which is perfect for everyone to live in. I think the reason why we were asked to draw the map is to know what kind of map or picture of the world we want for others to see it as how we imagined it. We are trying to identify the image that everyone is bringing not just in their mind but we can also find what they want us to see and imagine with their drawings. Each of us never forget to write the country that they lived on the map. Some of us may have forgotten to draw the other countries but I think no one forgotten to write their own country.
Finally, I think that everyone is bringing their own image of what their country is and what country is around it. Our drawing shows the shapes, sizes and forms of the countries are different. They also drew each country most specifically the country the live in the center and the neighbouring countries around it. No one did forget to draw their own country and It made me realize that they treasure and give credit for the importance of their country to their lives because they love their own country and want to protect it.
